The return of The Great British Bake Off sees Brits head back to the kitchen as sales of baking accessories soar on eBay

As the hit BBC show returns to the small screen this week, the nation has once again been whisked up into a bake-off frenzy.

eBay, one of the worlds largest marketplaces, has seen a surge in sales of baking products as new research* reveals that more than half of Brits (54%) are inspired to head to the kitchen as a result of TV cookery shows. As Brits prepare for the Great British Bake Off, sales of mixing bowls have doubled in the last seven days, with sales of rolling pins and kitchen scales also up over 25%.

The research also found that there are some baking cheats in our midst with 1 in 10 of us admitting to purchasing a cake from the bakery and claiming it as our own work. Those in the West Midlands are the sneakiest, with one fifth (21%) of those surveyed from the region admitting to the little white lie.

eBay spokesman, Steven Heywood, says; ‘Following the success of the last series it’s not surprising to see that Brits are once again becoming inspired in the kitchen. With the first episode hitting the screen this week, sales of baking goods have shot up and with over 6,000 listings of baking sets currently on the site, eBay.co.uk is the perfect place for baking fans to get their hands on the tools they need to recreate their favourite on-screen recipes at home.’
