Ahead of Harry Potter’s 20th anniversary at the end of this month (26 June), eBay.co.uk has taken a look at the most popular characters on site and revealed that the boy wizard continues to cast his spell across the nation as he tops the character ranking.
With more than 335,000 current listings for ‘Harry Potter’ on site[1], the online marketplace has found that when it comes to magical characters, the young wizard flies into first place, with more than 175,000 Harry Potter related items sold in the last three months – that’s almost four every minute – with items ranging from playing cards to Quidditch Sets.[2]
In second place is Hogwarts’s headmaster Dumbledore, who is selling three related items every hour – much to the disappointment of arch nemesis Voldemort who slithers behind in third, selling only two items in the same timeframe. Harry’s best friends Ron and Hermione come in fourth and fifth place, with Hermione selling 45 items per day and Ron selling 9 items in the same time period.
It’s clear that wizarding nostalgia has struck ahead of the 20th anniversary this year, as it’s not just character related merchandise flying on the shelves. Young fans keen to emulate their favourite wizards, has resulted in the online marketplace seeing more than 23,000 Harry Potter wands selling on site – that’s 10 wands sold every minute – and nearly three Harry Potter costumes sold every hour in the last three months.
