Today, eBay unveils ‘The Wish List’ - a collection of twenty of the most sought after handbags on the platform, which have inspired the curation of six trends. Driving the luxury landscape, these feature both iconic vintage pieces which are having a resurgence, alongside ‘IT bags’ straight from the catwalk.
One year on from launching its Authenticity Guarantee service for handbags, eBay has witnessed the pre-loved luxury handbag market blossom - with triple the number of sales of popular styles globally including the Bottega Veneta Mini Loop and Chanel 22, reflecting the increased demand.
Serving the wish lists of more handbag collectors with complete confidence, eBay UK has most recently expanded its authentication offering to Dolce & Gabbana, Versace, Alexander McQueen, The Row, Off-White, Jimmy Choo, Tom Ford and Bvlgari.*
Emerging from the AW23 catwalks and resurfaced from the fashion history books, the twenty most lusted after bags sees Mulberry sitting pretty at the top, with the Fendi Baguette, Gucci Dionysus and Hermès Kelly close behind .

These most coveted handbags have inspired the following six trends, which include ‘Big Bag Energy’, ‘Time to Shine’ and ‘Get the Baguette’. Each consist of a combination of iconic luxury handbags and contemporary high-end silhouettes, suited to shoppers' individual style, and for every occasion.
Big Bag Energy
Taking over the handbag scene, totes and bucket bags are making their way back in in full force, but in a bigger and arguably, better way. Saint Laurent is at the forefront of this trend, with their now renowned Icare tote worn by tastemakers Hailey Bieber and Zoe Kravitz. Stealing their style, shoppers have searched for the ‘Saint Laurent Icare’ 145% more over the previous six months. Alongside Loewe’s ultimate stealth symbol bucket bag, which has piqued everyone’s interest with 275% more searches on eBay over the past six months.
Back to Business
Boxy, structured handbags that don’t compromise on style were seen during most of the SS23 shows. Whether it be a geometric mini top-handle bag or a clutch, the box bag dominated the French fashion house shows from Chanel to LV.Gucci’s 1955 boxy bag, Prada’s 1995 Style re-release and the HèrmesKelly are all ‘back to business’ bags on eBay’s radar. With Hèrmes bags particularly high in demand, responsible for a noteworthy 87 searches every minute globally.
Time to Shine
Metallics aren't just for the festive season this year, as the catwalks were recently awash with shimmer and shine. Chanel, JW Anderson and Gabriel Hearst all featured metallic bags and while gold remains a favourite, silver is having its moment in the spotlight as one of the big trends for 2023 - ideal for wearing with white and a heavy dose of sunshine.Balenciaga Crush and the Prada Cleo Mirrored both encapsulate this trend, alongside the ‘Valentino Glam’ which has been searched for 200% more.
Crescent Moons
A move on from the slouchy hobo, a crescent moon bag is a must for 2023. Hermes sent them down the runway in muted shades, while Fendi upped the colour game with bright pink micro styles, worn over the hand. No matter the colour, it’s the bag Vogue says we should be toting to dinner come summer. Looking to add one to their arm candy collection, shoppers are seeking a bag of this style including the ‘Bottega Veneta Sardine’, for which searches have increased by 250%, compared to six months ago.
Quilted Classics
A signature handbag style among luxury houses is the leather shoulder with a flap, sealed with their respective logo hardware. Updated versions of these familiar crossbody silhouettes can be found from designers including Saint Laurent and Gucci in quilted leather. Eyeing up a quilted leather arm candy of their own, shoppers have searched 150% more for ‘Chanel quilted’ over the past six months. Simultaneously, the padded effect proves to be timeless as ever, with styles including the Chanel flapover, Balenciaga Crusha, Gucci Deo and Bottega Venetta Cassette tying in perfectly with this trend.
Get the Baguette
If there’s one 2023 handbag trend that will surely never go out of style, it’s the baguette bag. With its signature snug under-the-shoulder carry and flap closure influencing an increase in searches for the ‘Gucci Horsebit’ by over 65% since November 2022. Similarly, the Fendi Baguette 1995, and JW Anderson Baguette Bumper are styles instrumental to this trend.
