eBay and ‘Air Fryer King’ Nathan Anthony set to launch the UK’s First Ever Air Fryer Restaurant this September

Press Release

This September, eBay has joined forces with self-confessed ‘Air Fryer King’, Nathan Anthony to launch the UK’s first ever pop-up air fryer restaurant. Opening on 27th September at 100 Hoxton Street, the first-of-its-kind culinary experience celebrates the most hyped kitchen hero of the moment and aims to prove the value and quality of refurbished technology.

Air fryer fiends can look forward to a specially curated menu of small plates inspired by pop culture including crispy salt and pepper squid, steak tacos, halloumi fries and sweetcorn ribs; all made using only refurbished air fryers from eBay.

The launch comes after new data revealed over a third of Brit’s (39%) are unsure how they’ll pay for increased energy bills this winter, with nearly half (48%) welcoming advice on how to cook more efficiently.

With an average running cost of £55.71 per year vs. an electric cooker at £335.57, it’s no wonder the air fryer is one of today’s energy saving heroes. It’s a trend witnessed first-hand by eBay with a +350% increase in searches for ‘refurbished air fryers’ since the start of the cost-of-living crisis, and Ninja is leading the way in the popularity stakes with a whopping +900% uplift in the same period.Despite the craze however, nearly half (42%) of Brit’s still don’t own one, with cost being the key barrier (32%).

The pop-up aims to educate shoppers on the major cost and energy savings to be made through choosing refurbished kitchen appliances, as well as the positive impact it has on the planet.

From touch screen iPad menus to frozen margaritas expertly mixed in Sage 3X Bluicers (New: £389.95 vs Refurbished: £199.99) and ice cream straight out of NINJA Creami’s (New: £199.99 vs Refurbished: £129.00), every touchpoint has refurbished tech at its heart, all which Brits can get their hands on at up to 50% off on eBay.

Two times best-selling food author, Anthony Nathan, the Air Fryer King behind ‘Bored of Lunch’, says: “Having started as a home cook in lockdown, opening a real-world pop-up restaurant to showcase a tangible way consumers can save costs this winter is a dream come true! These speedy counter-top machines can whip up a dish in record time with lower energy use and costs - and despite the name, they’re useful for far more than frying! In fact, as a low-oil cooking method, they're one of the healthiest – and tastiest - ways to cook at home.”

Mark Monte-Colombo, Head of Refurbished Technology at eBay UK says: “Despite the recent change in energy cap, the reality is increased energy bills remain unaffordable for many this Winter.

“We also know Christmas is coming faster than we think and with that comes lots of preparation, particularly when it comes to food and festive baking! We want to demonstrate tangible ways shoppers can save money on their energy bills and on the cost of kitchen appliances, through choosing refurbished this winter.

“All items are available through eBay’s Refurbished programme and are inspected, cleaned, and refurbished by either the manufacturer itself, or manufacturer-approved sellers, meaning shoppers can also buy with peace of mind.”

What to expect:

The specially curated menu includes twelve small plates in total - three starters, four mains, three desserts – all of which are served over the course two hours and personally introduced by the ‘Air Fryer King’ himself, with tips on how to recreate them at home. Highlights include steak tacos with avocado cream, miso glazed aubergine, aglio e olio chicken wings, nduja-stuffed arancini balls, peaches with ice-cream, honey, and pistachios and Creme Egg croissant balls.
