February 16, 2011 – Designer Derek Lam introduces an exclusive dress collection—DEREK LAM + eBay—featuring 16 original pieces, today at a presentation at New York Fashion Week and simultaneously at dereklam.ebay.com at 3.45pm.
Shoppers globally are invited to view the collection and vote for their favourite designs – from crisp shirtdresses to feminine black tie gowns – to influence the final crowdsourced collection. The five dresses receiving the most votes will be announced on March 1st and made available for purchase in-season this May at accessible, set price points ranging from $125 - $295 (£78 - £185), in US sizes 0 – 16 (UK size 4 – 20), exclusively on eBay, the world’s largest online marketplace.
Lam, whose clientele includes Kate Hudson, Jessica Alba, Leighton Meester, Rachel Bilson, Kate Bosworth and Anne Hathaway, commented: “For my DEREK LAM + eBay collection, I designed an assortment of iconic dress styles that I envision for every woman’s wardrobe—with refined combinations of clean lines, effortless elegance and a playful touch of sensual femininity. The exclusive collection, designed for Spring/Summer 2011, includes seven iconic dress silhouettes—the Shirt Dress; the Shift Dress; the Black Tie Dress; the Sun Dress; the Boho Dress; the Chemise Dress; and the T-Shirt Dress. Made from fabrics including cotton poplin, silk poplin, indigo denim and a printed georgette, the dresses reflect Lam’s intuitive feel for elegance combined with ease.

Last year, the eBay Fashion Outlet launched on the UK site, offering brand new items direct from brands such as Kookai, House of Fraser, OFFICE, Karen Millen and Jigsaw with significant discounts. In addition, the eBay Fashion app, available free from iTunes, allows fashionistas to browse, buy and virtually “try on” items from the world’s largest online shopping destination.
Lam has received abundant recognition within the fashion industry, winning the CFDA Perry Ellis-Swarovski Award for Emerging Talent in Womenswear in 2005, the Vogue/CFDA Fashion Fund Prize in 2005 and the CFDA Accessory Designer of the Year Award in 2007. He launched his label in 2003 and was named creative director of Tods in 2006.

About Derek Lam
Derek Lam, a native of San Francisco, began his fashion career in 1990 after graduating from Parsons School of Design. After twelve years spent at the highest levels of American fashion as a designer at Michael Kors, Lam, together with his partner Jan-Hendrik Schlottmann, launched his eponymous label in 2003. 2006 saw rapid growth at Derek Lam as handbags were added to the collection and Derek was named creative director of Tods. 2007 continued the trend of growth with the addition of shoes and eyewear to the Derek Lam label.
