eBay’s ‘Best Price Guarantee’ to match lower prices on new products – and beat them by 5%

Available to Aussie shoppers, across more than 70 million eBay items

In line with GST change, eBay is offering 10% discount on purchases until 8 July
2 July, 2018 — From today, Australians will have even greater assurance they’ll get the best price on new items found on ebay.com.au, Australia’s largest online marketplace, with the launch of eBay Best Price Guarantee.
Shoppers who buy a new item on eBay but find a lower price on the same item elsewhere¹ within 48 hours can receive an eBay voucher for the price difference - plus an extra 5%.²
Julie Nestor, Chief Marketing Officer at eBay Australia & New Zealand, said the Best Price Guarantee is the biggest program of its kind in Australia.
“We know eBay sellers have the best prices, and we’re willing to put our money where our mouth is. If Aussie shoppers do manage to find a cheaper price, we’re not just matching prices – we’re beating them,“ Nestor said.
“Australians shop first on eBay because we have 40,000 Aussie retailers, as part of our huge selection of over 1 billion listings across eBay’s global marketplaces.
“We have the best products at the best prices, so Aussies don’t have to shop around – but if you do buy a new product on eBay and see it cheaper elsewhere, we’ve got you covered.
“We know Aussies are smart, savvy shoppers, so we encourage them to let us know if there are better prices out there. Competition only makes us better.
“Best Price Guarantee, coupled with free shipping and returns via our new eBay Plus membership program, are all about delivering the value and convenience Aussies love.”
How it works
Aussie shoppers can take up the Best Price Guarantee on all new Buy It Now listings, covering more than 70 million items from Australian and overseas sellers.
Aussie shoppers who find a cheaper version of their purchased item simply open a customer service online chat window and share their eBay item ID (found on their order confirmation email), along with a link to the identical item listed on an approved retailer’s website, within 48 hours of making the eBay purchase.³ An eBay voucher for the price difference, plus 5% of the total retailer’s item price will then be sent to the shopper.
eBay offering 10% off to coincide with GST changes
As an end of financial year special, eBay is giving consumers 10% off purchases⁴ on eBay.com.au, eBay.co.uk and eBay.com when they spend $50 or more.
“As of 1st July, shoppers must pay GST on most international online purchases under $1,000. Not only are we making sure Aussies can continue to shop on any eBay site, but we’re also offering a 10% discount from now until 8th July,” said Nestor.
