eBay and Yoshitomo Nara are releasing a special art bundle as part of the marketplace’s #Artober celebration. Today through October 31, shoppers can visit ebay.com/YoshitomoNara to purchase an entirely new print from the artist, entitled Marching on a Butterbur Leaf, which is bundled with a pack of five stickers that also feature Nara’s artwork. There are 1,000 bundles available, each priced at $150. One hundred percent of proceeds will benefit the Dallas Contemporary, a museum promoting new and exciting work from emerging artists.
Much of Nara’s work features portraits of children in a nod to his own experience growing up in Japan. A closer look at the innocent-looking subjects, however, instills unease in the viewer, and in some cases, even reveals unsettling details like knives and lit cigarettes. These haunting pieces have gained an international following, and enthusiasts are sure to covet this latest addition to his portfolio, along with the accompanying sticker set, available only on eBay.
“The power of eBay is its ability to reach almost anyone, anywhere, which is a huge asset for most artists,” said Nara. “Releasing an exclusive piece of art on eBay is a chance to reach a broader audience who may not necessarily be going to galleries and exhibitions. We’re connecting with those people in an accessible way with something entirely new and impactful.”
“Yoshitomo Nara has touched people around the world with his singular, unsettling works, which is why this partnership was so natural; with the eBay platform, we’re able to reach millions of enthusiasts looking to expand their collections,” said Sam Bright, Vice President of Merchandising at eBay. “Our shoppers know they can come to our marketplace to browse a huge selection of works from renowned artists, and this #Artober, we’re expanding those offerings with special new works and exclusives that can’t be found anywhere else.”
With each sale, shoppers will support Dallas Contemporary and the various regional, national and international artists it hosts through learning initiatives and art exhibitions. Programming includes conversations with artists, educational tours and other opportunities that promote engagement among global audiences and the local community alike.
eBay’s #Artober campaign honors and spotlights art and its many contributions to culture. To celebrate the moment, eBay is collaborating with several artists and non-profit arts organizations alongside Nara and the Dallas Contemporary, including Hank Willis Thomas and the Public Art Fund, tokidoki and Simone Legno for Children Mending Hearts, and Carlos Rolón for Project Backboard, to feature exclusive releases and sales. Further, the eBay Foundation will donate $20,000, to be distributed among each of the organizations.
