Bummed that you won’t be going to the Super Bowl? Why not take a chance on winning tickets for a suite at a Lakers-Clippers game, or a football signed by the Kansas City Chiefs’ Tony Gonzalez, while giving to a great cause? As the clock ticks down towards the Super Bowl, StubHub has kicked off a related charity auction with eBay Giving Works, with sports memorabilia, event tickets and VIP experiences up for bidding.
More than 70 items, including donations from the San Francisco Giants, AEG and the Houston Astros, are featured in the auction, which runs until Monday, Feb. 3, at 4 p.m. PT. Selected items will also be available for on-site bidding on Feb. 2 at StubHub’s Super Bowl fan event, the Sub Zero Experience.
“StubHub is very excited to collaborate with eBay Giving Works on the sports memorabilia auction to raise awareness and funds for the Police Athletic League of New York City,” said Kate Vizza of StubHub marketing communications. “We are teaming up for a great cause, to support NYC youth education and recreation programming with a silent auction the week of the Big Game.”
The Police Athletic League (PAL) is a not-for-profit organization that provides New York City’s youth with safe, structured programming designed to engage boys and girls in positive activities that improve their quality of life and offer the prospect of a brighter future. PAL is also a non-profit partner with StubHub Foundation’s Rising Stars program, which offers PAL financial support, employee talent and other pro bono resources to expand the reach of its youth sports programming.
Charitable giving is an integral part of eBay as well as StubHub. Since 2003, eBay Giving Works has enabled the eBay community to raise over $350 million for nonprofit organizations. Giving Works auctions drive a seller-determined percentage of proceeds to a designated nonprofit, and also provide a “Give@Checkout” option.
“We are thrilled at the opportunity to partner with StubHub and leverage eBay Giving Works to raise funds to support the Police Athletic League of New York through the charity auction, plus giving consumers the opportunity to donate at checkout on eBay during the campaign,” said Greg Pedone, general manager of eBay Giving Works. “Our presence at the tailgate gives us the opportunity to get in front of a new audience who may not be familiar with our giving programs.”
In addition to the auction, StubHub and PAL are co-hosting a day of football games with the PAL kids in New York on Feb. 1, capped off with a championship game coached by celebrity athletes. Baltimore Ravens defensive end Chris Canty will kick off the game with a coin toss.
