Born in China, Samuel Lu immigrated to the United States in the early 1990s. After his father’s unexpected passing, Samuel watched his mother make major sacrifices to pursue her dream of opening a small retail store in Queens selling herbal and nutritional products and supplement. Growing up in China, he spent his afternoons and weekends helping his parents at the family store. During this time he learned about the work ethic and dedication necessary to run a small business successfully.
Samuel often dreamed of following in his mother’s footsteps and one day owning his own small business. Unintimidated by the prospect of hard work and long hours, he left his corporate job and six figure salary to pursue his American Dream. In 2015 he successfully leveraged his mother’s brick and mortar retail store to sell nutrition and herbal products online.
Thus, New Green Nutrition was born. “eBay was a great way to introduce our products and services to the world,” explains Samuel. Since retail space in New York comes with a hefty price tag, ecommerce is a great avenue for Samuel’s business. “eBay has offered us a great venue to grow our business and reach a global audience that didn’t exist before.”
Today Samuel may be working harder than ever, but he enjoys the daily challenges and rewards that come with running a small business. His biggest satisfaction comes from applying his talents towards growing something that’s his own. Samuel is also taking full advantage of the newfound flexibility that comes with being your own boss, and he is extremely glad that he’s able to spend more time with his aging mother and his wife.
Samuel was featured in Season 1 of eBay’s Open for Business podcast.
