It’s Red Nose Day in the U.K., a charity fundraising effort with celebrity muscle that’s put on by Comic Relief. While the BBC telethon is a one-day event, eBay is again hosting auctions of exclusive fashion items and celebrity experiences, such as the opportunity to see One Direction perform live, from an exclusive suite at London’s O2 Arena.
Lorin May, head of sustainability and charity for eBay Europe, writes on The Guardian’s website: ”We’re thrilled to be working with Comic Relief again after the success we saw during the last campaign, when the eBay community raised more than £300,000.
This year, Red Nose Day’s fashion ambassador David Gandy has launched ‘The Blue Steel Appeal‘, which will feature exclusive money-can’t-buy items and experiences from fashion icons including Kate Moss and celebrities such as One Direction.
The return of Comic Relief to eBay shows the power that technology platforms can bring to charity initiatives. By hosting the auction on eBay, the appeal has the potential to reach over 17 million people in the UK and many more around the world.
