More than 65,000 attendees packed into San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park on Aug. 10 to Aug. 12 to enjoy live music, comedy, crafts and epicurean eats at the fifth annual Outside Lands, the world’s only gourmet music festival. Proceeds from the sell-out event will raise millions of dollars, principally benefiting San Francisco’s Recreation and Park Department. Both StubHub and PayPal were sponsors of the event.
The event featured an amazing array of established artists and newcomers, including Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Metallica, Stevie Wonder, Jack White and Foo Fighters. In addition, more than 50 top-tier Bay Area restaurants were on hand to please the most discerning palates, including Michael Mina, Maverick, Farmer Brown’s Little Skillet, Pacific Catch, American Grilled Cheese Kitchen, Kara’s Cupcakes and 4505 Meats. Wine enthusiasts could sample selections from more than 30 Bay Area wineries, including Long Meadow Ranch, Scribe, Bonny Doon, Kermit Lynch and Paul Grieco’s Summer of Riesling 2012.
Thousands of event-goers visited the PayPal tent to recharge their devices, pick up a refreshing smoothie made by Jamba Juice and enter to win prizes. The PayPal tent also hosted a convenience store where attendees could pick up music festival essentials, including sunscreen, mints, blankets and gloves. All proceeds from the PayPal convenience benefited charity: water and the Seva Foundation.
“The PayPal tent was hopping all weekend,” said Matthew Tye, PayPal Employee Communications Intern. “Through a variety of contests – including a mobile roulette wheel and digital picture contest -- we were able to demonstrate the power of anytime, anywhere, any device shopping and entertainment in a fun and engaging way.”
For those who wanted to pepper their experience with spectator sports, attendees could power up their devices, catch a game, download music from OutsideLands artists and win great prizes at the StubHub Digital Music Lounge.
“StubHub’s presence at music festivals like Outside Lands keeps getting better and better,” said Joann Bagon, StubHub Executive Assistant to Vice President of Technology. ”This year, it was great to see fans join us for live band performances in our tent. Everyone also had such a great time dancing to our DJ and then testing their own turntable skills at this year’s StubHub Scratch Academy. My favorite part, though, was helping fans pick winning tickets off Ticket Oak. Just for signing up for our new rewards program, fans walked away with amazing prizes like gift certificates, blankets to use during Outside Lands and NFL, NBA and concert tickets. Their reactions were priceless!”
