eBay ‘Traders’ Republic’ gives a face to online trade in Germany

eBay Germany News Team

The interactive site provides information on individual retailers in Germany and details their success stories.

As one of the largest online marketplaces in the world, eBay also represents a significant part of online trade in Germany. German online shoppers spend 42 percent of all shopping minutes on eBay and eBay classifieds.* A big part of the success is due to the eBay’s large number of German sellers. To highlight some of the key insights of the Marketplace, the eBay Germany team recently launched the website eBay 'Traders’ Republic’, to show the distribution of economic diversity on eBay throughout Germany and to put the success of its tens of thousands of sellers in the foreground.

“eBay has democratized trade; this is why we can offer our more than 17 million active buyers in Germany alone a unique variety.” says Nina Kristin Pütz, Senior Director Soft Goods of eBay in Germany. “In Germany, we are now going one step further: we are celebrating this diversity and giving a face to the many retailers who are largely responsible for eBay's success. As a partner to retailers - never competitors - we present unique business models and show the range of online trading on eBay in Germany."

The eBay 'Traders’ Republic’ provides information on the location of individual retailers, their industry affiliation, the year of foundation and individual success stories. In addition, regional focal points and conurbations of individual sectors can be identified in online trading.  Information can also be found at the level of the various eBay categories. For example, it can be researched that more than 45 million articles are offered in the electronics category - including 94 percent new goods. Or that 58 percent of car parts are still purchased via desktop devices. The eBay 'Traders’ Republic’ also offers information about the most expensive items sold in 2017: A ceramic brake for the Porsche 911 model was sold for over 15,000 euros in the automotive parts category.

"The large number of dealers on eBay is representative of the unique inventory on our site: 140 million listings in Germany alone, so everyone can find exactly the perfect item for him or her," adds Pütz. With the website www.haendlerrepublik-ebay.de, eBay has brought together the data of its commercial sellers in Germany in an interactive map of Germany; on a national and regional basis, sector-specific and in detail with individual success stories of individual sellers - including many small and medium-sized companies. Seller portraits and regional data on trade represent a snapshot of German ecommerce and make it possible to obtain individual information. New information and personal stories about online trading will appear every month.
