eBay.fr is in the driver’s seat at the world’s oldest endurance car race 24 Hours of Le Mans, with a physical pop-up store displaying some of the rarest motorsports collectables.
This historic race is a perfect setting for eBay to show off its motoring muscle. A community of 250,000 car enthusiasts from all over the world will be able to browse the store and learn more about eBay.fr and its parts and accessories category which sells 9,000 items a day in this category alone.
Céline Saada-Benaben, Managing Director of eBay France, said: “More than half of the French buy their car equipment online these days, and 23% buy it on eBay. This makes eBay.fr the second most popular marketplace in France for this category."
The physical store aims to cater to collectors, mechanics and car enthusiasts. It’s made up of three different spaces:
• An exhibition of rare, collectable and historical items available on eBay.fr
• A sales space run by eBay seller "Little Bolide” who sells motoring miniatures and collectables.
• And a display by a second eBay seller Empreintes des Pilotes, who sell bronze plaques of the Le Mans winners hands and feet.
These bronze plaques are a massive part of Le Mans Week. The first bronze plaque, with the handprints of the winning team, was set into the pavement in Le Mans town center 24 years ago. And now, every year the three winning drivers have their hand and footprints molded into a plaque that is unveiled by the drivers themselves the following year, the day before the race.
The eBay pop-up store also displays the famous suit that Henri Pescarolo wore when he won the 24 Hours of Daytona. The suit is up for auction, until June 18, on eBay.fr with all profits going to EvènemenCiel association, a charity created by aviation and motoring enthusiasts in 2003, which supports the Androka orphanage in Madagascar.
The eBay France Le Mans store is at the center of the race to let car enthusiasts, the world over, know where to go for anything motor related. On eBay.fr alone, one car accessory is sold every minute, one item in the Tires and Wheels category is sold every 5 minutes, one vintage car part is sold every 7 minutes, and one spare part is sold every 30 seconds (nearly 3,000 items per day).
