-The installation celebrates the live auctions experience
- Artist Mario Wagner Collaborates with eBay’s Global Community:
Today, eBay announced a collaboration with artist and illustrator Mario Wagner to create a one-of-a-kind, interactive art installation in New York City.
Titled ART FOR ALL, the installation celebrates the recent launch of eBay’s new live auctions experience, which makes a compelling selection of art and collectibles from auction houses around the world available on eBay. Wagner will use thousands of Instagram images, crowdsourced from people around the globe, to create an original work of art that is inspired by the new live auctions experience and conveys inspiration, access, connection and community.
“eBay just introduced a new experience that connects people to the incredible art available at traditional brick-and-mortar auction houses from wherever they are,” said Wagner. “Partnering with eBay on a unique piece of artwork, which marks this exciting launch was a natural fit. Art is all around us – and my latest work will incorporate inspiring images from the global eBay community to create a timeless piece.”
eBay’s live auctions provide virtual entrance to auction house salerooms from anywhere in the world. With the live auctions experience, eBay’s 152 million active buyers now have the same access to auction merchandise as those bidding in person on the auction room floor. The premium art and collectibles inventory is sold directly by hundreds of world-class traditional auction houses, including premier partners such as Doyle New York, Freeman’s, Garth's Auctions and Swann Auction Galleries. All items are backed by the eBay Money Back Guarantee.
“eBay’s live auctions offer everyone – from art aficionados to first-time buyers – a fresh, modern way to discover, browse and buy art online,” said Gene Cook, head of eBay art and collectibles. “We’re proud to mark this milestone by collaborating with Mario Wagner to curate the collective inspiration of our community and create an original piece that speaks to the elements that make our new live auctions experience exceptional.”
To participate, consumers around the world are invited to share a photo on Instagram of something that inspires them – from a stunning sunset to a classic car – and include the hashtag #eBayArtForAll. From November 7th – 9th, approved photos tagged #eBayArtForAll will instantly print at the site of the live art installation, located in New York City’s Meatpacking District. Wagner will use the inspiring images to create an original work of art over the course of three days.
eBay’s ART FOR ALL interactive installation will be open to the public at 14th Street and 9th Avenue in New York City, Friday, November 7th through Sunday, November 9th from 12 – 7pm each day.
