With eight of the ten top electronics retailers in Australia now operating on eBay and an electronics item selling every second on ebay.com.au, eBay is a major player in the tech and electronics space, and one of the best places to buy electronic devices online in Australia.
That’s the message behind a recent promotion to drive sales in the tech and electronics space on eBay.com.au, showcasing the huge range of products on offer from some of Australia’s biggest online retailers.
Launched in April, the Tech Sale offered buyers a compelling 20 percent off the sales price of all electronics products (up to a $500 maximum discount) resulting in big GMV growth gains, double the results of similar campaigns.
In a country with one of the highest uses of smartphones in the world, it was no surprise to see that 25 percent of all sales were mobile phones, as Aussies spent big on higher priced items. Two local retailers, The Good Guys and Kogan, dominated the event, responsible for more than half of all sales.
Kicking off the Tech Sale, eBay’s customers were treated to a tongue-in-cheek campaign hosted on a Facebook app, #DroneAFriend. Aiming to convince people that eBay is the best place to buy their tech online, the campaign gave Sydney residents the chance to nominate a deserving friend for a tech prize delivered by drone!
With a big push on social media, the campaign reached more than 1.5 million people on Facebook and received over 2,500 submissions.
Once the winners were chosen, the drones delivered brand new tech gifts to their unsuspecting audience, including an iPad to grandparents who had never used the Internet and wanted to stay close to their kids, and an iPhone for a Sydneysider who survived cancer and a double lung transplant to now spend his time running triathlons.
