Last week at Shoptalk, eBay spotlighted some big changes rolling out in the next year, from fast and guaranteed shipping to recent endeavors in artificial intelligence.
Following two major company announcements earlier that day—guaranteed delivery and a new homepage—our CEO Devin Wenig took the main stage for a fireside chat with Recode’s Jason Del Rey. Devin delivered a powerful statement about eBay’s position in ecommerce and our future as a company, touching on the evolution of the retail landscape and how ecommerce fits in; our work using structured data to re-platform eBay’s Marketplace; opportunities in artificial intelligence; and our values as a company. Devin talks more about how eBay’s changing in his latest blog, We’re on The Edge of Something New.
eBay’s refreshed brand was on full display at the eBay booth and put into action through live activations and demos. Key verticals were highlighted throughout the week, beginning with a series of pop-up fashion shows before transforming the booth to a dream garage complete with a BMW i8 (for sale on eBay, of course).
Chief Product Officer RJ Pittman was on hand to walk attendees through a demo of our conversational shopping assistant, ShopBot Beta, leading tech tours with senior executives from top retails brands, analysts and other influencers, while promoting messages around our mobile and AI endeavors.
eBay also participated in other panel discussions at the event. VP of Business-to-Consumer (B2C) Selling Bob Kupbens was featured in a panel centered on the “Future of Marketplaces”; and Bridget Davies, VP and General Manager for eBay Advertising North America, participated in a panel moderated by ChannelAdvisor’s Scot Wingo on how brands are leveraging the marketplace.
Shoptalk is a commerce conference held in Las Vegas and was attended by over 5,500 people representing 2,200 companies from more than 40 countries this year.
