Celebrating Giving Tuesday With eBay for Charity

eBay News Team

In honor of Giving Tuesday, we’re partnering with organizations to foster a community of giving during the holiday season — and matching all donations up to $150,000 total.

Through our global marketplace, we’re committed to empowering a community of giving this holiday season — now, more than ever, during a challenging year for many.

Starting today through Thursday, Dec. 10, we’re launching a series of exclusive eBay for Charity auctions for Giving Tuesday in partnership with artists, nonprofits and foundations where all proceeds will benefit a number of important causes, from supporting families in need to civil rights initiatives. Following our community’s lead in giving, we will be matching all funds raised by our participating partners during Giving Tuesday up to $150,000 total.

Shoppers can bid on a variety of rare and unique inventory at ebay.com/givingtuesday to support these efforts and charities, including The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, Comic Relief, Heifer International, To Write Love on Her Arms, NAACP Legal Defense Fund, PGA TOUR Wives Association and The Skateboard Project.

In addition to our Giving Tuesday charity auction campaigns, we’re also teaming up with the GLIDE Foundation, one of our longstanding nonprofit partners. eBay will match any donations up to $50,000 until Wednesday, Dec. 2 to support social services and programs that help San Francisco’s most vulnerable residents.

“This Giving Tuesday, we are aiming to help our nonprofit partners raise essential funds using our eBay for Charity platform since traditional in-person galas and holiday events are not an option this year due to the pandemic,” said Bradford Shellhammer, Vice President of Buyer Experience. “We wanted to enable our customers to give to the nonprofit causes closest to their hearts while shopping for one-of-a-kind items designed to delight them.”

eBay customers also can connect with and support their favorite charities when they buy or sell through eBay for Charity this holiday season. Sellers can donate up to 100 percent of the proceeds to a charity of their choice, while buyers can add a donation to their purchase during checkout or buy Gifts That Gives Back, with symbolic gifts ranging from $10 to $100.

In addition, eBay for Charity is reaching across the world to help our community give. In the U.K. for example, we are encouraging customers to join our Big Charity Sell, in which customers can donate a percentage of purchase between Tuesday, Dec. 1 and Sunday, Dec. 20 to their favorite charity. eBay will match our customer’s generosity, donating £5 for every £1, up to a total of £500,000. Any U.K.-based, eBay enrolled charity can join the campaign to raise awareness and help fundraise. And in Italy, we have created a selection of special Giving Tuesday-branded merchandise on eBay Beneficenza.
