Four years ago, Spencer Apland was attending business school, but was still not quite sure what he wanted to do with his life. As a do-it-yourself mechanic, he had a revelation after buying a wrecked car to use for parts: maybe he could sell the unused parts on eBay. One sale led to another, and soon he was moving so many units, he decided to quit school and start his own business, 541 Motorsports. Spencer rented a 1,200-square-foot shop, which he outgrew in a year. He hired two employees and rented a 2,500-square-foot space and outgrew that, as well. Today, 541 Motorsports continues to grow.
